Salón del Manga de Barcelona, known as Manga Barcelona since 2018, is a yearly manga and anime convention held in Spain. The event regularly features karaoke and cosplay contests, presentations of new titles, interviews with guest authors, and special exhibitions.[1] It has been held every fall since 1995, excepting 2020.
In 2017, Yoko Kamio attended the event from November 3 to 5 as a special guest at Planeta Cómic's booth. Kamio signed autographs for fans and did a live drawing on stage.[2]
Background[]
Planeta Cómic invited Yoko Kamio to the XXIII Salón del Manga de Barcelona, coinciding with their announcement to republish Boys Over Flowers (No me lo digas con flores in Spanish).[3] From November 3 to 5, 2017, Kamio had one signing session per day at Planeta's booth, which lasted for around an hour and a half each. On the final day, Kamio had a master class. She requested that no photos or videos be taken of her for privacy.[4] Kamio later gifted illustrations to Planeta and the event organizers, Fi Comic.[5] Manga artists Robico, Masasumi Kakizaki, and Yoshiaki Sukeno were also guests at the event. XXIII Salón del Manga de Barcelona was attended by 148,000 people.[6]

- The event marked Yoko Kamio's first time meeting her fans in Europe,[7] though she has been to various countries in the region[8] and visited Spain at least twice before.[9]
- Boys Over Flowers anime director, Shigeyasu Yamauchi, was a guest at the convention in 2007 to speak about Dragon Ball Z.[1]
