My Margaret Exhibition (わたしのマーガレット展 () Watashi no Māgaretto-ten) was a series of exhibits held in Japan that showcased the history of the shojo manga magazine, Margaret. The first exhibits were originally held in 2013 to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary.[1] It was later held as "My Margaret" until the final exhibit in June 2016 in Sendai.[2]

The exhibit featured art from several manga series published in Margaret, such as The Rose of Versailles and Boys Over Flowers. Series from its sister magazine, Bessatsu Margaret, were also showcased, including Itazura na Kiss and Love Com.[1] The exhibit has had a variety of unique features, such as a "Kaleidoscope Theater."[3]

Background[]

My Margaret initially began as Margaret 50th Anniversary Exhibition (マーガレット50周年展 () ), celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the manga magazine Margaret. The first exhibit was held at Marunouchi Hall in Tokyo during the spring of 2013.[1] The exhibit was renamed "My Margaret" for the showing at Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo during late 2014.[4] By the time of the Niigata exhibit in mid-2015, 90,000 people had attended My Margaret.[5] It was held in various cities across Japan until the final exhibit in Sendai in June 2016. The Sendai exhibit was also held as a "special edition" of My Margaret.[2]

Features[]

Both iterations of the exhibit showcased over three-hundred original drawings from several manga series' published in Margaret and Bessatsu Margaret. The art was organized by decade.[1] Attack No. 1, Aim for the Ace!, Itazura na Kiss, The Rose of Versailles, Hot Road, Boys Over Flowers, Kimi ni Todoke, and Blue Spring Ride were among the featured works.[4] For the My Margaret edition, several special attractions were added. This included a life-size statue of Oscar and André from The Rose of Versailles, a "Kaleidoscope Theater" showing romantic scenes from several manga, and a "Margaret Post" to send letters to the manga artists.[7]

For the 2013 exhibit, a corner was decorated to resemble the bedroom of the main character of Switch Girl!!, which had recently been adapted into a drama.[1] To celebrate the release of Hot Road, costumes and props from the film were featured at the 2014 Tokyo exhibit.[8] There were several autograph sessions, including Ayumi Komura at the Kitakyushu exhibit on April 29, 2015,[9] Momoko Koda at the Niigata exhibit on September 6,[10] and Kazune Kawahara and Aruko at the Urasoe exhibit on October 4.[11] At the Sapporo exhibit, there were autograph sessions for Kawahara and Minami Mizuno on December 27, and Karuho Shiina and Amu Meguro on January 10, 2016.[12]

Merchandise[]

Various merchandise of manga from Margaret and Bessatsu Margaret were sold at the exhibits. Periodically, new items were added.[13] A visual book, Love and..., was sold at the exhibit and features examples of love in Margaret, including Boys Over Flowers.[14]

Café collaborations[]

For the first exhibit, a collaboration menu was set up at Café Ease on the first floor of the Marunouchi Hall. One menu item was dedicated to Boys Over Flowers. It was a parfait inspired by the colors of dango.[1] For the third exhibit, another collaboration menu was served at the Mado Lounge Spice. The Boys Over Flowers item was an assortment of gateau, each having a different flavor to represent Tsukushi and the F4.[15]
