Career[]

In 2004, Moon entered the entertainment industry as a child model.[4] He appeared in a music video for TVXQ's "Balloons" playing a young Yunho in 2006.[5] In 2009, Moon made his television debut portraying a younger version of Kim Bum's character in Boys Over Flowers. For several years, Moon was a trainee under Fantagio.[6] Fantagio announced Moon's placement in the six-member band Astro in August 2015. Prior to their official debut, he appeared with his bandmates in the web series To Be Continued.[7] The group made their debut in early 2016 with the extended play Spring Up.[8] They released two more extended plays, Summer Vibes and Autumn Story, that year.[9] Astro was named one of the best new K-pop groups of 2016 by Billboard.[10]

In early 2017, Astro released a special album titled Winter Dream.[11] That year, they released two extended plays, Dream Part.01 and Part.02.[12][13] In 2018, the band went on hiatus due to a internal struggle at their label. They released their second special album Rise Up in July of that year.[14] In 2019, Moon joined the cast of At Eighteen playing Jung Oh-je[15] and Astro released their first studio album All Light.[16] Moon went on hiatus later that year to focus on his health and recovery.[17] In 2020, Moon joined the cooking program, Food Avengers.[18] He had a starring role in the web series The Mermaid Prince the same year.[19] Moon reprised his starring role in the series' second season.[20]

In August 2020, Moon and Yoon San-ha formed Astro's first subunit Moonbin & Sanha.[21] Their debut extended play In-Out released the following month.[22] Astro's second studio album All Yours came out in 2021.[23] Later that year, Moon joined the cast of Saturday Night Live Korea for season eleven.[24] Moonbin & Sanha's second extended play Refuge released in February 2022[25] and Astro's third studio album Drive to the Starry Road in May.[26] Moon decided to renew his contract with Fantagio later that year.[27] In January 2023, Moonbin & Sunha's third extended play Incense came out.[28] At the time of his death, Moon was set to perform at Dream Concert with Yoon.[29]

Death[]

On April 19, 2023, his manager found Moon dead at his home in the Gangnam District of Seoul at around 8:10 PM.[30] He was twenty-five. A statement by the Seoul Gangnam Police indicate that it was a probable suicide.[31][32] Wake services were held at Seoul Asan Hospital with Moon's sister Sua serving as the chief mourner.[33][34] Astro bandmates Yoon and Jinjin attended the wake. MJ was granted urgent leave from the military and Cha Eun-woo cut short his work in the United States to attend the services.[35] Moon's funeral was held privately on April 22 for family and close friends.[36]
