The following is a list of promotional activities for Meteor Garden (2001). This includes events, interviews, collaborations, etc.

A web page was created for Meteor Garden on CTS's website. It included a summary of the series, information on the cast, behind the scenes photos, and a message board for fans to post on.[1] A web page was also created for Meteor Garden II. It had a plot synopsis, character introductions, trailers, a message board, and behind the scenes photos.[2]


Meteor Garden press conferences[]


On April 4, 2001, a press preview of Meteor Garden was held for the media. It was attended by several members of the cast, including Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Vanness Wu, and Ken Chu. Harlem Yu, whom performed the theme song "Qing Fei De Yi," presented flowers to Hsu.[3] Ann Yeh, Belinda Cheng, Edward Ou, Rainie Yang, and Zhang Ruo Zhen were also in attendance.

A celebration banquet for Meteor Garden was held on April 20. Wu was unable to attend as he had flown home to the United States. Another press conference for the drama was held on July 30.[4]

F4 Music Party Concert[]

F4 had their first two concerts, titled Meteor Garden F4 Music Party Concert, on October 20 and 21, 2001 at Neihu Super Dome in Taipei. They performed songs from their album Meteor Rain.[5] Yu, Hsu, and Ou were special guests at the concert.[6][7] A second iteration of the concert took place on January 27, 2002 at Suntec Singapore Convention Centre in Singapore.[8]

Meteor Garden II press conferences[]


A press announcement for Meteor Garden II was held on March 5, 2002. It was attended by Hsu, F4, Angie Chai, and Hou Hsiao-hsien. Hou was present since he initially had plans to be a producer for Meteor Garden II.[9]

On November 5, a press preview for Meteor Garden II was held in a hotel in Taipei.[10] It was attended by the Taiwanese press as well as press from other Asian countries. Stars Hsu, Chou, Wu, Chu, and Michelle Saram among others were in attendance. Jerry Yan was absent as he was sick due to over exhaustion.[11]

Variety shows[]


ABCDEF4 is the first variety show hosted by F4. They traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Yilan County for the show.[12] It aired for eight episodes, starting from September 29, 2001 on TVBS-G.[13][14] The show was released on VCD and DVD in Taiwan and DVD in Japan.[15] ABCDEF4 was also dubbed in Tagalog and broadcast in the Philippines.[16]

Meteor Dream Land[]

Meteor Dream Land (Chinese: 流星夢幻樂園; pinyin: Liúxīng Mènghuàn Lèyuán) is F4's second variety show. It aired in early 2002.[19] The show was cohosted by Phoebe Huang and Aya Liu.[20] It was released on VCD in Taiwan and DVD in Japan.


Hong Kong[]

Asia Television (ATV) had a page on their official website for Meteor Garden.[23]


In March 2002, F4 visited Hong Kong for a handshake event.[24] In April 2009, ATV held a two day exhibit, "Romantic Meteor Shower Photo Exhibit" (浪漫流星雨圖片展), at Olympian City to commemorate the rebroadcast of Meteor Garden.[25][26] ATV actors Lulu Ng, Grace Cheung, Manecy Chen, Johnny Ko, Frankie Choi, Idea Ng, and Sean Z made an appearance for the opening ceremony of the exhibit.[27]


Indosiar hosted a web page on their website dedicated Meteor Garden.[28] To celebrate the premiere of Meteor Garden II, Indosiar held a premiere on November 17, 2002. It took place simultaneously at Gedung Pusat Perfilman Usmar Ismail, Studio Café, and places in Bandung and Semarang.[29]

Comic Ritz Productions established a Japanese website for Meteor Garden as an off-shoot of their F4 Japanese website.[30]

An exhibition, titled Meteor Garden and F4 World Exhibit, toured Japan from 2005 to 2006. Boys Over Flowers creator Yoko Kamio attended the press conference for the exhibit along with Barbie Hsu, Vic Chou, and Angie Chai.[31][32] Ken Chu, Rainie Yang, Vanness Wu, Aisa Senda, Edward Ou, and Megan Lai all visited Japan at different times to promote the exhibit.[33][34]


ABS-CBN released free ring tones of the songs, "Liu Xing Yu," "Jue Bu Neng Shi Qu Ni," and "Broken Vow." Users obtained them by texting a certain number.[35] A campaign was held on their website for Christmas 2003. People were able to text "Meteor" to a number, which allowed them to download Christmas-themed logos, picture messages, and wallpapers. They were then entered into a raffle to win exclusive Meteor Garden merchandise or a Nokia 6600. The campaign ended on January 16, 2004.[36]


Following the series success, a concert, dubbed "The Event," was arranged to take place on September 13, 2003 at the PhilSports Arena (formerly the ULTRA). Chu, Wu, Hsu, and her sister Dee Hsu performed.[37][38] On November 29 of the same year, Jerry Yan, Chou, Hsu, and her sister performed at ABS-CBN's fiftieth anniversary concert, "Happy 50 TV."[39][40] Dai Mei Productions and East-West Global Entertainment arranged for a concert featuring all four members of F4. The concert, titled "F4 Live! Happy New Year 2004," took place on December 26 at the Fort Bonifacio Open Field.[41]

State visit[]

In 2003, Yan became an endorser for the Filipino brand, Bench. He visited the Philippines from November 6 to 7 to promote the brand. Yan first paid a courtesy call to then Filipino president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He also paid visits to a children's hospital and several orphanages. The next day, Yan attended a press conference for Bench at Le Pavillon Metropolitan Park. He returned to his hotel afterwards for interviews with select members of the press.[40]


Channel 3 promoted Meteor Garden on its website, creating several free-to-download desktop wallpapers.[42]



Meteor Garden Shooting (CTS)

  • On April 20, 2001, CTS and several other news outlets covered the filming of Meteor Garden for the day. Hsu and other cast members also answered a few questions from the press.[43]
  • A campaign called "10,000 Messages, 10,000 Hearts" was advertised on the Meteor Garden II website. Users were asked to call a number and leave a message for F4, which would make them eligible for a number of prizes. Among the prizes were posters, the soundtrack, the series of VCD, and a pair of rings modeled after the ring given to Shan Cai in the series.[44]
