Mariko Kaga (加賀 まりこ (かが まりこ) Kaga Mariko, born December 11, 1943 in Tokyo, Japan), also known by her real name Masako Kaga (加賀 雅子 (かが まさこ) Kaga Masako), is a veteran actress who has been active in film and television since the 1960s. Kaga portrayed Kaede Domyoji in Hana Yori Dango, Hana Yori Dango Returns, and Hana Yori Dango Final.

Early life[]

Kaga was born on December 11, 1943 in Kanda-Ogawamachi (now Ogawamachi). From age eight, she was raised in Kagurazaka. Her father, Shiro Kaga (加賀 四郎 () ) was a producer at Daiei Film. She has an older brother whom grew up to become a producer like their father.[1]

At the age of seventeen, Kaga was scouted by director Masahiro Shinoda and Shuji Terayama while she was still in high school. She was given her stage name, Mariko, from Shotaro Akiyama.[2] Kaga made her film debut in Tears on the Lion's Mane in 1962.[1]

  • Kaga celebrated her birthday on the day of the "Crank Up" ceremony for Hana Yori Dango (2005), which celebrated the end of filming. She was given a cake and the cast sung to her.[3]
