Background[]
"Love so sweet" was released as a single on February 21, 2007. It served as the theme song of Hana Yori Dango Returns (2007), which starred Jun Matsumoto.[1] It was also a follow-up to Arashi's "Wish," the theme for Hana Yori Dango (2005).[2] "Itsumademo" was featured on the regular edition of the single.[3] On the limited edition, "Fight Song" was included. It was originally performed on Arashi's variety show G no Arashi.[1] "Love so sweet" was placed on Arashi's seventh studio album, Time, in July 2007.[4] It was also included on the compilation albums, 5x10 All the BEST! 1999-2009[5] and 5x20 All the BEST!! 1999-2019, along with "Wish" and "One Love."[6]
The single debuted at #1 on the Oricon charts, selling 204,493 copies.[7] The single stayed in the top ten for five weeks and ranked at #3 for the first half of 2007, selling 420,894 copies.[8] It finished the year at #4 on the yearly charts, selling 429,832 copies.[9] The song was on Japan Gold Disc Award's list of the Best 10 Singles of 2008, along with "Flavor of Life" by Hikaru Utada, the insert song for Hana Yori Dango Returns.[10] "Love so sweet" is also certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan.[11]
In October 2019, Arashi opened their YouTube channel with five music videos, including "Love so sweet." It was also made available for streaming for the first time on Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music.[12] On May 15, 2020, Arashi released "Love so sweet: Reborn," a reimaging of the song.[13] It was preceded by a new version of "One Love."[14]
