"It's exasperating to see all of you with daggers drawn. I suggest we find a solution. Long ago, the Greeks fought with the Olympic spirit. Lets imitate them by splitting into two teams of three. The loser will have to give in to the winners. No regrets."
Zhuang's proposal

The seventh episode (第7集), also known as "Chapter Seven" (Chapter 柒), of the Taiwanese series Meteor Garden aired on May 24, 2001. It was followed by episode eight on May 31. Mary Hsu guest starred in this episode.

Dao Ming Si attempts to expel Hua Ze Lei and Dong Shan Cai from Ying De Academy. His sister proposes that they play a game of basketball to settle things instead. Later, Si decides to leave Taiwan and join his parents in New York.

Plot[]

Dao Ming Zhuang brings Dong Shan Cai to her family's home to talk. Dao Ming Si refuses to come out of his room while Shan Cai is there. The next morning, Si recruits Chen Qing He to join the F4 though Xi Men and Mei Zuo refuse to accept him. He plans to have Shan Cai and Hua Ze Lei expelled from school. As they are leaving Si's house, Zhuang grabs Qing He who tells her Si's plan. The next day, Si brings his demands to the principal. Zhuang bursts through the door with Shan Cai, followed shortly by the F3 and Qing He. Starting with Shan Cai, several of them say that they will drop out. Zhuang eventually interrupts, deciding that they should settle it with a game of basketball. Loser has to do whatever the winner wants.

After practicing with Lei and Qing He, Shan Cai finds Si waiting for her outside her home. He hugs her and promises to cancel the game if she just says that she likes him. She says nothing, feeling "unworthy" of him. Si questions why she has to like Lei, but seems to accept it. As he leaves, Shan Cai wonders if she will "regret" this decision later, but for now, she has chosen Lei. The next morning, everyone arrives for the match with Zhuang acting as referee. Si's team is in the lead for the majority of the match. Lei finally manages to score a point by distracting Si with Shan Cai. Si's jealousy quickly gets the better of him, allowing Lei to score several points. At the last second, Si has a change of heart and ends the game.

Si walks around the city in a daze and comes across three guys who attempt to rob him. He does not notice them until they repeatedly say phrases that sound like "Lei." After beating them up, Si appears to be feeling better. Meanwhile, the others are having a celebratory dinner at the Dao Mings' home. Intoxicated, Xi Men, Mei Zuo, and Zhuang decide to lock Shan Cai and Lei in the guest bedroom. They chat and Lei admits that he may have been using her as a "substitute" for Teng Tang Jing. He apologizes, but Shan Cai has "no regrets." Si finally comes home and Zhuang reveals where Shan Cai and Lei are. He seemingly accepts it, but still appears to be hurt as he watches Shan Cai the next morning.

Lei later tells Xi Men and Mei Zuo that nothing happened between him and Shan Cai. He admits that ultimately he could not betray Si. Meanwhile, Si informs Zhuang that he will be joining their parents in New York. Shan Cai returns home that night. Her mother reveals that her father has been laid off and they can no longer afford to rent their home. Later, the family moves into a dingy, one-bedroom apartment. Her parents' hopes now rely on Shan Cai either marrying Si or Lei. She resolves to find another job to "stand on [her] own feet." At school, Qing He tells Shan Cai that Si is leaving Taiwan. She asks Si why he had not told her, before slapping him. Shan Cai then starts to cry before running off.

Some minutes later, Lei reminds Shan Cai of how she encouraged him to go after Jing. He then "Are you really going to let him leave?" At the airport, the F3 and Qing He come to say goodbye to Si and Zhuang. He has already boarded the plane when he starts to comprehend what Lei said at the last second. That Shan Cai actually likes Si. Zhuang stops him from getting off the plane. Meanwhile, Shan Cai watches his plane take off from afar. At work, Shan Cai discusses Si with Xiao You. She now wants to forget him and focus on supporting her family. The F3 arrive shortly and help Shan Cai by using their good looks to attract customers. Once everything has sold, Shan Cai's and Xiao You's boss agrees to a raise.
