Teng Tang Jing to Shan Cai

Episode 2 (第2集), also titled "Chapter Two" (Chapter 貳), is the second episode of the Taiwanese drama, Meteor Garden. It originally aired on April 19, 2001 on CTS. The episode was followed by episode three on April 26. It also marks the first appearance of Winnie Chien and Edward Ou.

Dong Shan Cai's blossoming feelings for Hua Ze Lei develop just as his first love, Teng Tang Jing, returns from France. In the meantime, Shan Cai's old friend Chen Qing He transfers to Ying De which makes Dao Ming Si jealous.

Plot[]

In home room, Dong Shan Cai discovers rumors about her being a delinquent and having had two abortions written on the blackboard. She suspects Dao Ming Si and finds him outside with the rest of the F4. Shan Cai yells at him, declaring that she is still a virgin. Si now thinks that she is interested in him romantically. Xi Men, however, says "Aren't you reading too much into it?" Shan Cai returns to the classroom, where she finds Bai He and Qian Hui erasing the message. The girls act friendly and invite her to a "casual" party. At work, Shan Cai talks with Xiao You who encourages her to attend. Hua Ze Lei and Mei Zuo then walk into the shop. Xiao You quickly figures out that Shan Cai has a crush on Lei.

Shan Cai arrives at the party dressed in casual clothes. She has been lied to since everyone else is dressed formally. Bai He and Qian Hui embarrass her by repeating the rumor to a man who shows an interest in Shan Cai. Qian Hui says "Did you really think we wanted to be friends with you?" Taking a few moments, Shan Cai returns to embarrass Bai He by insinuating that she is only interested in men for their money. She then pours a drink on her. Meanwhile, Lei hears from Teng Tang Jing that she will be returning soon. The next day at school, he acts especially nice to Shan Cai. He asks her the time difference between Taiwan and France, but she does not know. Bai He and Qian Hui secretly tape them.

Bai He and Qian Hui later show Shan Cai a magazine with details on Jing, whom they reveal Lei loves. In shock, she remains quiet. After Bai He pushes her, Si arrives and stops them from harassing her. Shan Cai only becomes annoyed with him, leading to an argument that ends in her telling him how much she hates him. Later, Si seeks a way to appear more likeable with his butler's help. The next day, Xi Men and Mei Zuo call over Shan Cai to join their picnic. They discuss Jing and her relationship with Lei from when they were children. That night, Shan Cai happens to meet Lei who surprises her by kissing her on the cheek. Jing arrives the next day at school. The F4 greet her and Shan Cai watches from a distance.

The F4 later take Jing to their favorite night club to catch up. Lei becomes quiet, leading Si to tease him. He then reveals that Lei is bothered by Jing's modelling campaign. She assures him that it is only her job and tells him "I like you best." Meanwhile, Shan Cai eats with her bickering parents and thinks to herself that she cannot measure up to Jing. The following day, she is greeted by an old friend Chen Qing He, who has just transferred. Shan Cai takes Qing He under her wing, though she worries about repercussions. Si sees them together and becomes jealous. When he sends out a red slip, Shan Cai confronts Si who insists that it is all her fault and then accidentally pushes her. Shan Cai leaves to help Qing He.

Shan Cai and Qing He are chased all around campus and eventually wind up in front of Jing and the F4. Lei stops the students from bullying Shan Cai, which angers Si. After a tug-of-war for Shan Cai, Si declares "You are no long my friend." Jing then takes Shan Cai to the girls' room to clean up. Shan Cai admires Jing, whom she describes as a "real lady." She later meets Lei on the rooftop and thanks him for rescuing her. She waits with him until nightfall, at which point he sets off fireworks in hopes of his wish coming true. The next day, Shan Cai meets Qing He. He invites her to go on a cruise with him, before she passes out. Shan Cai goes home with a fever. She attempts to rest, despite her bickering parents.
