Episode 10 (第10集), also titled "Chapter Ten" (Chapter 拾), is the tenth episode of the series, Meteor Garden. The episode first aired on June 14, 2001 in Taiwan. It was followed by episode eleven on June 21. The episode introduces Christine Ke as He Yuan Zi.
Seeing how serious Dao Ming Si is about Dong Shan Cai, his mother begins to carry out her plans to separate them. She first attempts to bribe Shan Cai's family with money. When that fails, she arranges Si's engagement to an heiress.
Plot[]
At Dao Ming Si's birthday party, his mother, Feng, forces Dong Shan Cai to play the piano in order to embarrass her. Shan Cai angrily bangs on the piano, before launching into a song and telling a story with it. It becomes clear that she is not a heiress and Si's mother demands that she leaves. However, Si grabs Shan Cai's hand and runs away from the party with her. The F3 distract his mother and her servants. The pair spend most of the night talking and asking each other questions about their relationship. Si's stomach growls and Shan Cai finally gives him her present; cookies made to resemble his face and hair. Meanwhile, Si's mother receives information about Shan Cai and decides to carry out her plan.
In the morning, Si excitedly shows Hua Ze Lei the cookies Shan Cai baked. Lei takes a bite and Si demands that he "spit it out." Meanwhile, Feng visits Shan Cai's home and offers ten million dollars to her and her mother as long as she promises to leave Si alone. Shan Cai's mother dumps flour on top of Feng's head and tells her that do not need the money. After she leaves, Shan Cai praises her mother for turning down the money. However, to her disappointment, Shan Cai's mother asks her to marry Si so they can get all of their money. The F3 later warn Si about his mother is likely going to try to break them up. That night, Feng's secretary comes to escort Shan Cai to her hotel and Si is accosted by his mother's bodyguards.
At the hotel, the secretary brings Shan Cai to a room, where Si and his mother are sitting around a table. A young girl, He Yuan Zi, is then forcibly brought into the room. Si's mother introduces Xiao Zi as his fiancée. Her parents walk into the room and exchange pleasantries. Once they notice Shan Cai, Feng asks her if everything is clear to her now, to which she replies "I understand." Si flees the room and intends on grabbing Shan Cai's hand, but accidentally grabs Xiao Zi's instead. He gets far away before realizing his mistake. Now mad at Si, Xiao Zi jumps on his back and bites his ear. He throws her off and leaves her on the sidewalk with no shoes. Xiao Zi watches him with a slight smile.
Shan Cai returns to her job and complains to Xiao You, feeling convinced that Si already knew Xiao Zi. The next day, she yells at Si for making a "fool" out of her and refuses to listen to him. Xiao Zi, shortly later, comes to Ying De and recognizes Shan Cai. Si then walks up and tells Xiao Zi that "the engagement is off." However, she refuses to give up and begins to annoy Si to a point that Xi Men and Mei Zuo ask Shan Cai to take her away. The two girls end up going shopping together and Xiao Zi asks her for advice about Si. Shan Cai initially thinks she is rude, but gradually warms to her personality as she learns more about her. They agree to be friends, and Xiao Zi kindly gives Shan Cai an outfit she saw her looking at.
That night, Shan Cai finds Si waiting outside her home. They go somewhere to talk. He tries to explain that nothing happened between him and Xiao Zi. However, Shan Cai now feels conflicted. She reveals that she has spent the day with Xiao Zi and thinks that she is a good person. Shan Cai encourages Si to date her. Si slaps her and then silently leaves. Shan Cai then stands in the rain. At home, Si realizes that their relationship may really be over now. Later, Xi Men and Mei Zuo take Xiao Zi on a date to steer her away from Si. She sees through their scheme and tries her hardest to annoy them the whole day. Xiao Zi lastly asks to go and see Shan Cai. She reveals that she will always chose Si before leaving.

- Si reveals that his mother took his father's last name and that she runs the hotel chain, The Maple Hotel, which is also named after her.
- Feng mentions that she met Jing in Paris.
