Dong (Chinese: 董; pinyin: Dǒng) was the mother of Dong Shan Cai and wife of Da Nian. She operated a catering business called Dong's Private Kitchen and later opened a store.

Etymology[]
She is referred to as "Mrs. Dong" (董) several times.[1] This is either a courtesy title or that she may have taken her husband's last name. However, this is highly unusual for Chinese women since they typically keep their name after marriage.[2] Dong is a common surname in China.[3] It means "to direct" or "supervise."[4]
