"Yes, I love her. Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, and even Xiao Shun think they suit her. They force her to make a choice. Shan Cai doesn't know my feelings and I won't tell her. I'll keep it to myself."
—Qing He reveals his feelings for Shan Cai[src]

Chen Qing He (Chinese: 陳青和; pinyin: Chén Qīnghé) was a student at Ying De Academy. He transferred to the school after his family became rich by selling their land. There Qing He was reunited with his good friend and crush, Dong Shan Cai. His feelings were not returned and he later began dating Mi Mi. Qing He also became sort-of friends with the F4.

Early life[]

Qing He first met Dong Shan Cai during elementary school. He admired her for her strength as well as for her cheerfulness and kindness towards her friends. For example, he hated milk but Shan Cai always drank it for him despite it hurting her stomach.[2]

During college, Qing He's father sold his ancestral land which made the family rich. He was forced to enroll at Ying De Academy by his father. Qing He was concerned about going there since he thought it would be boring.[3]

Transfer to Ying De[]

Qing He arrives at Jing's party with Shan Cai and Xiao You

Qing He: "I was apprehensive about coming here, but I feel better after meeting you again."
Shan Cai: "Right! With you around, I... I think you had better not talk to me."
Qing He: "Why not? You're the only person I know. And we have always been good friends. Why tell me not to talk to you? Don't ignore me!"
Shan Cai: "All right, I won't ignore you."
— Qing He reunites with Shan Cai[src]

On his first day at Ying De, Qing He was reunited with Shan Cai. They spent much of the morning and lunch together. Qing He later opened his locker to find a red slip from the F4. He and Shan Cai were then accosted by bullies. They ran all over the school, ending up in the courtyard. The bullies only stopped when Hua Ze Lei stepped in. The next morning, Qing He invited Shan Cai on a cruise for spring break.[3] When they arrived at the ship, they learned that Si had bought it. Though annoyed, they boarded anyway. The first night, Si and Shan Cai accidentally kissed. Seeing her so upset the next day, Qing He challenged Si to a swimming contest though he quickly lost. He and Si bonded a little over making sashimi. Back at school, Qing He thought he and Shan Cai would no longer be bullied but was quickly proven wrong.[2]

Qing He later escorted Shan Cai and her friend Xiao You to Teng Tang Jing's birthday party. He spent much of the party collecting signatures from the various celebrities there until Xiao You stopped him. Despite not knowing Jing well, Qing He went to the airport with Shan Cai and said goodbye to her and later Lei. Some days later, he was shocked to see photos of Shan Cai and Si on the noticeboard.[4] Qing He met up with Shan Cai and some of their classmates at a nightclub. She asked him to take Li Zhen home, when she appeared to be drunk. The next day, the foreigner gave Qing He a note to hand to Shan Cai. The day after that, photos of Shan Cai with the foreigner were posted on the school's noticeboard, causing her to be bullied again. Qing He tried to protect her, but was beat up in the process.[5]

Stint in the F4[]

Qing He becomes part of the F4 briefly

Qing He: "Don't worry, Xiao You. I will play hero to rescue her."
Xiao You: "Qing He, you love her, don't you?"
Qing He: "Yes, Xiao You, I love her. Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, and even Xiao Shun think they suit her. They force her to make a choice. I will not do the same to her. Shan Cai doesn't know my feelings and I won't tell her. I'll keep it to myself."

A few days later, Qing He heard that Li Zhen was leaving Ying De and informed Shan Cai of it. He later learned that Shan Cai had gone to Okinawa with the F4. Qing He rented the villa next door and brought along a magazine, which had news of Jing's engagement.[6] Shortly after the trip, Si invited Qing He to join the F4, which Xi Men and Mei Zuo were not happy about. That night at Si's house, Si's sister Dao Ming Zhuang suddenly grabbed him and forced him to reveal Si's plans. The next day, Zhuang proposed a basketball to determine Shan Cai's and Lei's expulsion. Qing He played on Shan Cai's side and spent much of the night practicing. The game was declared a draw when Si gave up at the last second. Qing He was later present at the airport when Si left for New York with his sister.[7]

Upon his return, Si informed Qing He that he had slept at Shan Cai's place the night before. He became really upset, but Shan Cai insisted that Si only slept there because of his jet lag. Some days later, Shan Cai informed Qing He that she had obtained another job. Si, having overhead, forced Qing He to tell him where her new job was. On another day, Shan Cai told Qing He that she was going to meet a friend. Si came by and forced him to talk again.[8] After Shan Cai received a second red slip, Qing He distracted the bullies in order for her to escape. When he was unable to find her, Qing He called Xi Men and checked her place. He then went to her workplace, where he admitted to Xiao You that he loved Shan Cai. Qing He wanted to be the one to "rescue" Shan Cai, but that person ended up being Si.[9]

Supporting Shan Cai[]

Shan Cai: "Only when things go wrong do I realized I've wasted my efforts. How stupid! From Li Zhen to Xiao Shun and now..."
Qing He: "How can you say that? It's actually your strength. You believe in man's good nature. That's why you are kind to everybody. Though those people were wicked, you still forgave them in the end. You're such a sweet angel."
— Qing He comforts Shan Cai[src]

Several days later, Qing He witnessed Shan Cai fight with Si and then storm off. Si took his anger out on Qing He by pushing him.[10] Sometime afterwards, Qing He congratulated Si on his engagement to He Yuan Zi after he confirmed it. Qing He later tried to comfort Shan Cai when she seemed depressed. He ended up confessing his feelings for her, but she did not hear him. She thanked him for being a good friend and then left.[11] A few days later, Qing He talked to Xiao You about Shan Cai's parents leaving to work in a fishing village. Qing He was worried that she would have to leave school. After Shan Cai and Si started dating, Qing He complained to Xiao You and tried to convince her to help him break them up. Xiao You scolded Qing He and instead called Shan Cai to propose a "common folks date."[12]

Qing He's father later lost all of his money. Unknown to Qing He at the time, Si's mother Feng ruined his family and Xiao You's financially in order to hurt Shan Cai. She disappeared after the incident, and Qing He began searching for her and sending her text messages daily.[1] Qing He coincidentally watched the news and recognized Shan Cai, who was working at a restaurant in a small fishing village. He and Lei went to the village to bring her back to Taipei.[13]

After Shan Cai returned to school, she and Qing He remained friends. He witnessed many of Shan Cai's and Si's relationship troubles, including Lei pursuing her and the incident with Si's fake cousin, Ya Men.[14] When Si's and Xiao Zi's marriage was announced, Qing He was quick to believe it was real and talked ill of Si. Nevertheless, he provided Xi Men and Mei Zuo with the idea to call Si's sister, Dao Ming Zhuang.[15]

Physical appearance[]

Despite being considered unattractive by his classmates, Qing He had overall normal features. He had a round face with a wide nose and thick eyebrows. Qing He had sparky, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was much shorter than the F4, standing at one hundred and seventy-six centimeters. Both of his ears were pierced.

Personality and traits[]

Qing He was generally a funny and happy person, who was easy to get along with. He had his moments when he was annoying or embarrassing to his friends. Qing He, who was new to wealth, irritated rich people the most. In many ways he was considered the opposite of the F4, who were rich from birth and athletic. Despite his general cluelessness, Qing He understood Shan Cai well likely due to their similar backgrounds and his feelings for her.
