After Kaito Taira leaves, Oto Edogawa finds herself unable to help the situation. Airi Maya expresses her annoyance at Kaito's passivity. Later, she informs him that she is considering studying aboard in Los Angeles after graduating.
Before abruptly leaving, Kaito Taira asks Oto Edogawa to make up an "excuse" for him. Oto sympathizes with him as they are both the type to put others' feelings ahead of themselves. She then joins the others who are rock climbing at the moment. When Haruto Kaguragi asks about Kaito, she tells him he has "jet lag." Seeing how happy Airi Maya is, Oto cannot bring herself to tell her about Kaito.
Sugimaru Eibi, Issa Narumiya, Haruto, and Tenma Hase split into two groups to play basketball. On the sidelines, Oto spaces out while Airi cheers loudly for Tenma and Haruto. Airi suddenly says "Kaito didn't leave because of jet lag, right?" She then expresses her frustration with him, saying "He says he likes me, but then he disappears when it counts." Airi's words are truthful, if a bit harsh, leaving Oto no room to argue. Once the game ends, Tenma invites them to a party and Airi tells him that only five of them will be going.
Haruto tells Oto "Maybe playing basketball was a bad idea." He recalls their childhood, in which Airi laughed at Kaito since it could not score. Kaito practiced so much that he got a stress fracture. Planning to go shopping, Airi heads to the hotel to retrieve her wallet. She finds Kaito playing a piano in the lobby. Airi tells him that she likes Tenma and wants to study in Los Angeles once she graduates high school. When she asks "What do you think?", he answers "You should do whatever you want, Airi."
