Tsukasa Domyoji has introduced Tsukushi Makino to his mother Kaede, saying "This girl is precious to me." Tsukushi thinks "What are you saying?," staring at his mother's judgmental face. Kaede then asks "Do you understand what it means to say that someone is "precious" to you?" to which Tsukasa simply answers "Yes." Sojiro Nishikado and Akira Mimasaka inform her that Tsukushi goes to Eitoku Academy and is a friend of theirs. Kaede silences the two and says "I'm asking if she's worthy of the Domyoji family."
Rui Hanazawa lies to Kaede by saying Tsukushi's father is a company president. He then whispers to Tsukushi "Bluff your way through." Kaede asks her if she can play an instrument. As Sojiro and Akira steer her to the piano, Tsukushi looks to Tsukasa who appears confident. Tsubaki Domyoji attempts to take up for Tsukushi, but her mother says "Any woman who marries into the Domyoji family will have considerable social obligations." This bothers Tsukushi and she bangs on the piano in defiance.
Addressing Tsukasa, Kaede tells him "You don't seem to understand your position at all." Tsukasa says "She's not the daughter of a company president, but that's not important." She becomes angry, leading him to tell her "What can I do?! I love her!" Kaede then slaps Tsukasa. Tsukushi tries to interrupt, but his mother cuts her off. Tsubaki tosses some car keys to Tsukasa, promising "I'll handle this." He grabs Tsukushi's arm and they make their getaway. His mother shouts after them "This is far from over!"
