Chapter 97 (第97話 () , Chapter 97) of the manga, Boys Over Flowers, was the last chapter collected into the fifteenth volume of the series. It was first released on June 5, 1996 in Margaret. The chapter was followed by the ninety-eighth installment. It marks the first appearance of Kaede Domyoji.

Tsukushi Makino attends Tsukasa Domyoji's birthday party. The F4 make her nervous about meeting his mother, who is hard to please. After greeting Tsukasa, she tries to avoid meeting his mother but embarrasses herself instead.

Plot

Arriving at Tsukasa Domyoji's party, Tsukushi Makino is greeted by Akira Mimasaka, Sojiro Nishikado, and Rui Hanazawa. She says to them "Why are you all so dressed up?" They are unimpressed with her simple dress and tell her to follow them. The F4 take Tsukushi to Tsubaki Domyoji, asking her to lend her a dress. Tsubaki agrees after they mention her mother. She has Tsukushi try on two outfits, before finding an old dress she made back in middle school. Tsukushi asks them "Why do I have to dress so perfectly?"

Akira, Sojiro, and Rui say in unison "Tsukasa's mother is really scary!" Tsubaki describes her mother as "very hard to please," going on to say "There's the future to consider..." Akira then tells her "She'll look at you as his fiancée." Tsukushi immediately tries to leave, but Sojiro holds her back. He says "It's the same for all of us sons of big money," explaining that they will "never marry a girl of our choice." Sojiro asks Tsukushi to play along for now saying "You two will never be able to get married to each other anyway."

Tsukushi walks up to Tsukasa and wishes him a happy birthday. He thanks her, but points out that she has come "empty-handed." She claims to have forgotten, though she actually choose not give him her gift after seeing his other gifts. Tsukasa grabs Tsukushi's arm to introduce her to his mother. She resists and holds on to Rui. His shelve rips, sending Tsukushi flying into the buffet table. Tsukasa's mother notices and orders him to send her home. He refuses, saying "This girl is precious to me."
