Chapter 89 (
Nervous about what Oto Edogawa may be thinking, Haruto Kaguragi brings her to his house to explain his past relationship with Amei Hanawa. He reaffirms his feelings for Oto by telling her "I'll always pick you in the end."
Plot[]
Years earlier, Amei Hanawa finds Haruto Kaguragi crying. Knowing his father has likely hurt his feelings, she says "Your dad just doesn't know your good qualities. I know lots." Present-day, Oto Edogawa is nervous about being at Haruto's house. Her heart starts to beat fast when she thinks about sneaking out of her house and worrying over Haruto. He enters the room, causing her to yelp from surprise. She apologizes and hopes that his parents did not hear her. He answers that both his parents are away. Oto becomes more nervous, realizing they are alone together.
Haruto declares that he has something to tell her about Amei. He admits to being "sweethearts", stating "her being there really saved me." At the time, Amei was the only person he confided in about his father. Oto asks why their relationship "did [not] work out." He reveals that he stopped receiving emails from her around middle school, saying "It was over." Oto starts to say that he and Amei would be together if the emails had not stop, but he interrupts her. He declares "I'll always pick you in the end." Haruto breathes a sigh of relief when she answers "I got it."
He returns the scarf that Oto had left at his house when he first confessed his feelings to her. Putting it around her neck, he says "My feelings haven't changed" and kisses her. After kissing for a few minutes, he asks her if she has to get home. She jumps up, realizing how late it is. Meanwhile, Issa Narumiya notices that Haruto and Amei have disappeared from the party. Walking Oto home, he asks if her mother would notice her gone. She thinks her mother is likely still asleep. Haruto then decides to get a cab to take them the rest of the way. They do not notice Amei watching them from behind a tree.
