Chapter 81 (
After a misunderstanding between Haruto Kaguragi and her mother, Oto Edogawa comes to his defense. Her mother becomes obstinately opposed to Haruto. Later, Airi Maya gives Oto and Haruto a chance to be alone together.
Plot[]
At Oto Edogawa's place, Haruto Kaguragi explains to her mother about Tenma Hase going away to America. Thinking he needs to "make amends", he mentions staying for a night before with Oto. Haruto fails to explain it properly and she becomes incensed about them spending the night together. He then calls her "mother", to which she yells "Is that what your intention is?" She states "Oto may not come back", hoping that she reunites with Tenma. Haruto is then kicked out of the apartment.
Outside, Haruto thinks about Oto not coming back. He is trying to banish away the thought, when Oto walks up to him. She thanks him for telling him in time and invites him in for tea. Haruto then holds out his arms, asking for a hug. Oto's mother runs up at that moment and drags her inside. She tells Oto that she does not like Haruto, saying "There's no way he's superior to Tenma!" Oto yells at her mother to stop. She calls Haruto "a bad influence," before retreating into the wardrobe.
Over a week later, Oto relates the story to Airi Maya. Her mother has refused to speak to her, only coming out of the wardrobe for meals. Turning the conversation to Tenma, Airi tells her that she was attracted to him because of their "mutual love for [Oto]." Oto asks about Kaito Taira, but Airi tells her she has "to do something about [her] own situation." Airi then takes Oto to her vacation home in the mountains. She grabs Oto's phone, before driving off. Haruto arrives by helicopter, having been duped by Airi. Oto stares at him, wondering "Is that what she meant?

- In the original release, Miyoko was mistakenly referred to as "Yukie" which is the given name of Oto's mother. It was corrected in volume edition.
- Various words were changed for Viz's volume edition of the chapter, including "I was in a real jam that day" to "I was in real trouble that day."
