Chapter 78 (第78花 () , Chapter 78), also known as Episode 78 (78話 () , Episode 78), of Boys Over Flowers Season 2 by Yoko Kamio was published on August 5, 2018. The chapter was simultaneously released in Japan and America. It was followed by chapter seventy-nine on August 19.

Kaito Taira admits to Haruto Kaguragi that he has liked Airi Maya since they were kids. Bolstered by Haruto's words, Kaito decides to pursue her. Meanwhile, Tenma Hase decides to transfer to Momonozono's sister school in Los Angeles.

Plot

During a student council meeting, Hitoshi Konoe brings up the school's sister school, which is to open in Los Angeles next fall. Noticeably distracted, Tenma Hase excuses himself and leaves. Konoe catches up with him and asks about Oto Edogawa. Tenma explains that he is "ashamed in [him]self" for not being able to "accept that Oto has chosen to walk a new path." Konoe asks if the person on Oto's new path is "good". Tenma smiles, saying "I think he's the only one who can make [her] happy."

Kaito Taira admits to Haruto Kaguragi that he has been in love with Airi Maya since they were kids. Haruto is surprised that Kaito "never let on all this time." He then tells Haruto that the odds of Airi liking him are two percent, down from the thirty percent it was when she liked Haruto. To this, Haruto says "Your heart is what counts" and tells him to disregard the numbers. After Issa Narumiya and Sugimaru Eibi arrive, they all go to make the usual greeting to commemorate the start of the semester.

Instead of joining the Correct 5 on stage, Airi hides in the back with Oto. She is avoiding Kaito, feeling she may have hurt him since she always went to him to talk about her crushes. Afterwards, Kaito walks up to Airi. He tells her not to "worry about hurting [him]," missing her saying "Kaito, listen to me" for the past few days. Airi calls him a "masochist", to which he says "Isn't that what love is?" She warns him about her being "cruel" though he answers "Bring it." At Tenma's house, he informs his father that he wants to go to the new school in Los Angeles.

• In the volume edition, several changes were made from the text, such as "But I went and said something stupid like a spoiled brat. I'm disappointed in myself." to "But I went and said something stupid and selfish. I'm ashamed of myself."
