Not to be confused with Chapter 57 of Boys Over Flowers Season 2.

"Kinsan is usually dressed like he belongs in a period drama. It's the first time I've seen him in his own clothes. I feel a little excited. This feels sort of like a date."
Tsukushi Makino

The fifty-seventh chapter (第57話 () ) of the manga, Boys Over Flowers, written and illustrated by Yoko Kamio was first published on August 20, 1994. It was released in the magazine, Margaret.[1] The chapter was followed by the fifty-eighth installment.

To cheer her up, Kinsan invites Tsukushi Makino on an outing. Her mother mistakenly thinks it is a date and forces her to dress up. Meanwhile, Tsukasa Domyoji and his sister arrive in New York. There he discovers who Kinsan really is.

Plot[]

In New York City, Tsukasa Domyoji complains while touring the Statue of Liberty with Tsubaki Domyoji. She becomes irritated with him, calling him an "embarrassment to Japan." They then go to a café for something to drink. The waitress cannot understand Tsukasa and mistakenly brings him coffee instead of cola. He drinks it anyway, not wanting to try speaking English again. Afterwards, Tsubaki decides to go shopping on her own, leaving Tsukasa to his own devices.

Tsukushi Makino has become competent at her job. Her manager talks about her progress to Kinsan, who notices Tsukushi let out a sigh. He asks her if she has to work the next day. Confirming she does not, Kinsan sets up a time and place to meet. The following morning, Tsukushi is searching for an outfit to wear when her mother asks if she has a date. She thinks that Tsukushi is going to meet Tsukasa or Rui Hanazawa. Ignoring Tsukushi's protests, her mother sets out on "Operation: Steal Hearts."

Dressed to the nines, Tsukushi meets Kinsan who is taken aback by her new appearance. She also notes to herself that Kinsan's clothes, which are not his usual "period drama" clothes. Tsukushi realizes "This feels sort of like a date." Meanwhile, Tsukasa wanders around lost in Times Square. Two dreadlocked men take a liking to his hair, calling him "friend." They then have him dance with them for money. Tsukasa reluctantly joins, before spotting a magazine with Kinsan's face on it.

Character appearances[]

Notes[]

  • Kamio drew the windows on the Statue of Liberty too large. She realized her mistake after seeing it on television at a later date.[2]
  • Tsukasa, in dinosaur form, is called Godzilla while the American is called a tyrannosaurus. In Viz's translations, it only says "You from Jurassic Park?"
  • Tsukushi mentions that it is summer, a reference to its August release date, but this chapter actually takes place around November according to the timeline.
