Not to be confused with Chapter 56 of Boys Over Flowers Season 2.

"Tsukushi... I think she really loves you. The only reason I didn't tell you sooner was that teddy bear."
Rui to Tsukasa

Chapter 56 (第56話 () ) is an installment of Boys Over Flowers by manga artist, Yoko Kamio. It was originally published in Margaret on August 5, 1994.[1] It collected into the series' ninth volume. The chapter was followed by the fifty-seventh entry, also published in August 1994.

Tsukasa Domyoji departs Japan without saying a proper goodbye to Tsukushi Makino. At the airport, Rui Hanazawa whispers something in Tsukasa's ear. The words sink in when he boards the plane, but Tsubaki restrains him from leaving.

Plot[]

Kinsan apologizes to Tsukushi Makino for fighting with her friend, Tsukasa Domyoji. She assures him that it is alright, though she feels a twinge of sadness when he mentions Tsukasa saying "he was never coming back." For a second, Kinsan seems to know Tsukasa but quickly covers it up, saying "Everybody's heard of that guy." He asks Tsukushi her name, before telling her she can keep calling him "Kinsan." After he leaves, Tsukushi thinks of Tsukasa and calls it "a fitting end for [them]."

At home, Susumu Makino complains about their food again. Their father falls over and hands their mother money, having donated his blood. Touched for a second, they then yell at him to get a job. Meanwhile, the F4 and Kazuya Aoike have a going-away party for Tsukasa. Kazuya tells them of Tsukushi's plight. The next day, Sakurako Sanjo approaches Tsukushi. She is distraught, confessing that she thought Tsukushi was in love with Tsukasa. Sakurako then declares "You're the only one who can make him stay."

The F4 see off Tsukasa and Tsubaki Domyoji at the airport. Rui Hanazawa waves over Tsukasa and whispers something in his ear. At the same time, Tsukushi is sitting at the emergency exit, reminiscing about her time with Tsukasa. She realizes that Tsukasa helped her change from being a "scared little girl." In the plane, Tsukasa thinks over Rui telling him about Tsukushi actually loving him. He tries to get off the plane, but Tsubaki has him restrained. Tsukushi watches a plane go by, wondering if Tsukasa is on it.

Character appearances[]

Notes[]

  • The chapter was first accompanied with a color illustration of Tsukasa, who is pictured bursting through the page.[2] It was republished in the art book and volume five of the complete edition.
  • This chapter references chapter one by showing a flashback of how Tsukushi first met Tsukasa. It also mentions Makiko Endo, who has not been seen since chapter two.
  • In episode seven of F4 Thailand, Ren (Rui) has similar line to one in this chapter, telling Thyme (Tsukasa) that Gorya (Tsukushi) actually loves him.
