Chapter 49 (
Tsukushi Makino tries her hardest to shoot a basket in order to stay at school but misses. Rui Hanazawa almost ties the game, when Tsukasa Domyoji suddenly quits. Everyone feels a mixture of shock, frustration, and relief.
Plot[]
Tsukushi Makino recalls when her mother forced her to attend Eitoku Academy. Despite crying with her middle school friends, she was sure she would make friends but this did not come to pass. From then on, she waited for graduation day when she would "finally be victorious over this school." Presently, Tsukushi shoots the basketball with all of her might. Everyone's eyes watch the ball as it soars towards the basket. It hits the backboard and circles the hoop, not making it in.
As the audience jeers, Kazuya Aoike picks up the basketball. Rui Hanazawa then yells at the clueless Kazuya to shoot the ball. Being directly beside it, he easily shoots it and scores a point. It is the F3's turn now and someone tosses the ball to Tsukasa Domyoji. He slams it to the ground. Tsukasa then surprises everyone by declaring "I quit" and calling the game "childish." As Tsukasa walks away, Tsukushi calls him name. He turns around and tells her "Do whatever you want."
Sojiro Nishikado and Akira Mimasaka are annoyed by Tsukasa's sudden decision to quit. They look to Tsubaki Domyoji for help. She says "What difference does it make?," pointing out that they still got the outcome they wanted. Rui throws the ball to Tsukushi, saying "Wasn't that fun?" Thinking the opposite, she does not reply. She remembers Tsukasa's last words to her, which "kept [her] from being expelled." Meanwhile, Tsukasa is wandering around Tokyo still in his basketball uniform.
