Chapter 40 (第40花 () , Chapter 40), previously release as Episode 40 (40話 () , Episode 40), is an installment of the manga series Boys Over Flowers Season 2. It was published on December 25, 2016 in Japan and America. The chapter was preceded by chapter thirty-nine on December 11.

Haruto Kaguragi finds Oto Edogawa crying, after Tenma Hase does not believe her about Hitoshi Konoe. He takes her to the hospital, when she has some stomach pain. On the way to her home, they run into Tenma.

Plot

After fighting with Tenma Hase, Haruto Kaguragi finds Oto Edogawa crying on the side of the street. Haruto asks her what happened and she quickly replies "nothing". He offers her a ride home and refuses to let her go with her "crying like that". Haruto correctly guesses that she had a fight with Tenma, causing more tears to flow. He exclaims that Oto is making jealous seeing her "crying over her boyfriend". Oto starts to walk away, but collapses as her stomach begins hurting.

Haruto picks up Oto and brings her to a hospital. A doctor tells her that she has "acute inflammation of the GI tract" and that it likely developed due to stress. Haruto mentions that transferring to Tenma's school should not make her stressed. Oto attempts to tell him that she is not transferring, but hesitates when she remembers Kaito Taira's words. She starts walking home and Haruto stubbornly follows her. Oto considers telling Haruto about Hitoshi Konoe, but decides against it.

In a car, Tenma asks Konoe about why Oto would accuse him. Konoe continues to deny his involvement, calling it "preposterous". Tenma assures him that he trusts him just as they reach Oto's street. He sees her walking with Haruto. Haruto says that he "just happened to run into her", but Konoe suggests that it was "planned." Tenma asks Oto about her accusations. Haruto, realizing what happened, questions why Tenma would not believe her. He goes on to say that "whether she [is] right or wrong, you gotta believe whatever the girl you like says."
