Sakurako: "Yes, I love him. I know I shouldn't. I know he belongs to you, but I love him. Tsukushi, you're not really dating him, are you? He's not really your boyfriend, is he?"
Tsukushi: "No, he's not. I'm sorry for pretending."

Chapter 27 (第27話 () ) is an installment of Yoko Kamio's Boys Over Flowers. The chapter was published in Margaret No.11 on May 5, 1993.[1] It was followed by chapter twenty-eight released later the same month.

Tsukushi Makino sees Sakurako Sanjo at a night club. Confused at first, she decides to believe in her. Sakurako later confesses to Tsukushi that she loves Tsukasa Domyoji. The next day, a picture of Tsukushi is spread around school.

Plot[]

At a night club, Tsukushi Makino is astonished to see Sakurako Sanjo there. Yuki Matsuoka's sister, attempts to oust her from the center of the dance platform, only to be swiftly kicked off. A group of girls force Sakurako to go outside, where they confront her about stealing the boyfriend of their friend. Tsukushi almost steps in to protect her, before Sakurako says "Okay, fat girl." Her words eventually reduce the girl to tears. She then laughs at the girls as they leave. Tsukushi is completely confused by what she has seen.

Her confusion continues to the next day, though she pretends that everything is normal. Sakurako then notices Tsukasa Domyoji feeling down and asks him about it. Tsukasa yells at her and says "What's with this chick anyway?" Sakurako cries and rushes to Tsukushi for comfort. Deciding "[she] should have been understanding" about Sakurako, Tsukushi calls Tsukasa "trash" for yelling at a girl. Sakurako, however, shouts "How dare you?!" and steps protectively in front of Tsukasa.

Tsukushi is perplexed by Sakurako, asking herself "Why is this happening?" In the girls' bathroom, she realizes a reason for Sakurako's behavior and asks "You like Tsukasa, don't you?" Still crying, she admits to being in love with him. Sakurako then begs Tsukushi "He's not really your boyfriend, is he?" She slowly answers "No, he's not." Unseen by Tsukushi, Sakurako smirks. The next day, Eitoku Academy students find dozens of copies of a photo which pictures Tsukushi in a bed with Thomas.

Notes[]

  • The club "Joliana" is a reference to Juliana's, which was a popular discothéque in Tokyo during the early 1990s. Yuki's sister dresses in the bodikon style popular at discothéques like Juliana's. The instance of her being forced off the dance platform, called an otachidai (お立ち台 () ), is based off actual incidents of women fighting for a place on the platform.
