Chapter 22 (
While stuck in an elevator together, Tsukushi Makino notices Tsukasa Domyoji is sick. She takes care of him until they are found in the morning. At school, her classmates are nice now that they think she is dating Tsukasa.
Plot[]
Stuck in an elevator, Tsukushi Makino yells "Get away or you'll regret it!" to Tsukasa Domyoji. He collapses, causing her to fall down with him. She proceeds to hit and kick several times, before realizing that he is not fighting back. Feeling his face, Tsukushi finds out that he has a fever. Tsukasa calls her "heartless" though she scolds him for not telling her sooner. For a moment, Tsukushi thinks "He did worse things to me. Why should I care?"
Tsukushi takes charge of the situation, wrapping a leek around his neck to bring down his fever. When Tsukasa complains, she yells "Shut up and do as I say!" Tsukushi then cares for him gently, placing his head in her lap and covering him with her jacket. The subject turns to Tsukasa's parents, whom he has not seen in two years. Tsukushi tells him he "must be lonely." Apologizing for the day, she says "I'll try to make it up to you." Tsukasa leans in to kiss her, when the elevator is finally opened.
Tsukasa and Tsukushi part ways outside. On the train, she wonders if Tsukasa is in love with her, before yelling aloud "No way!" Tsukushi goes to school after receiving a thorough scolding from her mother. There the students mysteriously start being nice to her. She is perplexed by this new treatment. Another student, Sakurako Sanjo, congratulates her on "going steady" with Tsukasa. Tsukushi hurries to the bulletin board, on which a photo of her and Tsukasa from that morning is posted.

- Sakurako compares the news of Tsukushi and Tsukasa being a couple to then Crown Prince Naruhito and Masako, whose engagement was announced earlier in 1993.
- In the original Japanese edition, Tsukushi and Tsukasa are listed as both being 17. Tsukasa's age is changed to 18 in Viz's edition. This would cause a continuity error later on since Tsukasa turns eighteen in chapter ninety-six.
