Chapter 196 (第196話 () , Chapter 196) is an installment of Boys Over Flowers by Yoko Kamio. It marks the ninth anniversary of the series. The chapter was first published in March 2001 and later included in the series' thirtieth volume. It was followed by chapter one hundred and ninety-seven in April 2001.

Tsukushi Makino and Rui Hanazawa run into the New York businessman she befriended earlier. She learns of the strained relations between him and Kaede Domyoji. Before heading home, she encourages the two to make up.

Plot

Tsukushi Makino thinks of Rui Hanazawa's blushing face, which made her heart race despite "[her] feelings for him end[ing] long ago." After leaving Rui's condo, he and Tsukushi head for Central Park. They then come across the businessman Tsukushi met before. Rui translates for the man who asks "if there [is] anyone [they] hate." Neither say yes. The businessman goes on to reveal that he has had a fight with a business client. Tsukushi cheerfully advises him to make up with the person.

After playing catch with Tsukushi, the businessman has cheered up and invites her and Rui to lunch. Rui comments "He's taken a liking to you." Tsukushi is confused, leading Rui to say "It perks people up just being with you." The three walk to the businessman's building, which is large and impressive. Rui remarks "He's probably the president." Now incredibly nervous, Tsukushi goes to the bathroom to fix her hair and face. She offers her help to distressed woman, who turns out to be Kaede Domyoji.

Kaede accuses Tsukushi of trying to "interfere with our negotiations" and leaves before she can defend herself. Out in the lobby, Kaede and the businessman begin shouting at each other. Tsukushi is surprised to see Kaede in this position. She decides to interfere, telling the businessman "I also despise this woman." However, she realizes that he regrets his fight with Kaede and encourages them to "make up." Skipping lunch, Tsukushi makes the decision to head back to Japan with Rui immediately.
