- "The thing with her is...once she makes a decision, she never wavers. Even when she was little, she hated being told what to do. And she hated special treatment just because she was a Todo. But Tsukasa, Sojiro and Akira laughed it off. I think it was just like her to come to a decision like this."
- —Rui describes Shizuka
Chapter 19 (
At first, Tsukushi Makino thinks she may be able to win Rui Hanazawa for herself. She realizes that she is not the type of person that schemes. Tsukushi then goes to Shizuka Todo and begs her to stay in Japan for Rui's sake.
Plot[]
At the emergency exit, Tsukushi Makino thinks to herself "If Shizuka goes off to France, he might forget about her..." She is quickly shaken from her thoughts by Rui Hanazawa. After a few moments of silence, she asks him if he is okay with Shizuka Todo's decision. Rui replies "It's not for me to say." Recalling how she was as a child, Rui knows that "once she makes a decision, she never wavers." Tsukushi nearly says "But, you might never see her again," but stops herself.
In Eitoku Academy's cafeteria, Tsukushi is drinking tea when a student drops a ten yen coin in her cup. She takes them by surprise by gulping down the drink and swallowing the coin. Akira Mimasaka, Sojiro Nishikado, and Tsukasa Domyoji, having saw the whole exchange, are disgusted on various degrees. Tsukasa reminds her of the previous night and wonders if she got drunk, "because [she was] so happy that Shizuka was going away." They then overhear some female students plotting to get close to Rui.
Disappointed in herself, Tsukushi rushes off and thinks to herself, "I was scheming just like those awful girls!" She then runs into Shizuka, who has just given her withdrawal notice to the school. Tsukushi suddenly asks her to stay in Japan, saying "For Rui Hanazawa's sake, you've got to stay here." Shizuka replies "I can't do that." Tsukushi then gets down on hands and knees, begging Shizuka again to stay. Unknown to the girls, Rui looks at the exchange in shock.
