"I can never call him up. You see, I broke it off completely with him before I came. I lied about the school holiday. I handed in a notice of absence from school. I left the apartment I was in because the floor fell through. That's why we don't have anywhere to go."
Tsukushi reveals everything to her family

Chapter 146 (第146話 () ) of the manga Boys Over Flowers by Yoko Kamio is the last chapter included in volume twenty-two of the series. It was published on September 20, 1998 in Margaret.[1] The chapter was followed by one hundred and forty-seventh entry on October 20.

Rui Hanazawa has learned Tsukushi Makino's whereabouts and asks Tsukasa Domyoji to come with him. The villagers demand that Tsukushi bring her fiancé to pay their debts. She finally confesses everything to her family.

Plot[]

Tama serves tea to Tsubaki Domyoji, who has learned about Tsukushi Makino leaving. She says to Tama "I guess my mother is far more cunning than I imagined." Tsubaki then asks if Tsukasa Domyoji has "gone back to his wild ways." Tama informs her "Things have heated up again." Meanwhile, Rui Hanazawa tells Tsukasa about seeing Tsukushi on television and says "Go and bring her back." He refuses, saying "This has got nothing to do with me." Despite seeming apathetic, Tsukasa voices his relief that Tsukushi is safe.

The Makinos' landlady yells at them to "hurry up and bring that filthy rich fiancé of yours." Tsukushi tries to tell all of the villagers that she will bring him "in time." However, they all believe that they were lying and one brings up Tsukushi "getting cozy with that no-account." She responds by saying "Yoshimatsu means nothing to me," but defends him as not being a "no-account." They still do not believe her, causing her to lose her temper. Her mother interrupts and promises to pay if they are given one more day.

Huddled in their room, Tsukushi's mother is mad and promises "to show them what's what tomorrow." She and her husband then tell Tsukushi to call Tsukasa. Finally, she reveals that she "broke it off completely with him." In the morning, the villagers gather in anticipation. Tsukushi and her family go downstairs and proceed to plead for themselves, before noticing Rui's presence. The villagers are asking if he is Tsukasa just as another car arrives. Tsukasa steps out of the car, locking eyes with Tsukushi.
