Chapter 143 (
Tsukushi Makino meets Matsutaro Yoshimatsu, an eccentric surfer waiting for his girlfriend to return. He works with her at a grilled corn stand. She becomes frustrated with him because he spends most of his time daydreaming.
Plot[]
A strange man hugs Tsukushi Makino and calls her Rika. She punches him, causing him to let go. Now angry, he grabs Tsukushi and continues calling her "Rika." He then says "Let's start over again." Tsukushi agrees and asks him to stop choking her, which he does. She punches him again and runs away. The next morning, she asks her mother about the young men around the village, but she does not know of any. She becomes irritated with her questions, telling Tsukushi to stay away from the "penniless boy."
Tsukushi meets with her new employer whom owns a grilled corn stand. He mentions people from Tokyo coming there to surf, which reminds Tsukushi of the man from last night. Then the other part-timer walks up and introduces himself as Matsutaro Yoshimatsu. Recognizing him, Tsukushi yells at him about what happened but he does not remember since he was drunk. While working together, Tsukushi quickly becomes annoyed with Matsutaro who repeatedly calls her "Tsukune" and does not listen to her.
Tsukushi works hard, while Matsutaro daydreams. She describes him as "like Rui Hanazawa with an extra screw loose." Her thoughts wander to Tsukasa Domyoji, though she is soon distracted. Later, she blows up at Matsutaro and tells him to do his job "properly." He calls her "Chairman" and starts talking about Rika, whom Tsukushi resembles. Matsutaro cries as he reveals that Rika left him. He then asks "Can you understand how I felt?," to which she answers "I can." When he hugs her, Tsukushi punches him.
