"If I fall asleep, I have the same dream I've had since that night... Of Tsukasa standing there. What should I do now. I no longer have anything to do with Tsukasa and I've quit Eitoku Academy. If the people of the village find out, I probably won't be able to stay here either."
Tsukushi Makino

Chapter 142 (第142話 () ) of Boys Over Flowers by Yoko Kamio was published in the manga magazine, Margaret on July 20, 1998.[1] It was followed by chapter one hundred and forty-three on August 5. The chapter was later included in the series' twenty-second volume.

Tsukushi Makino's mother has the entire village under the impression that she is engaged to Tsukasa Domyoji. She does not have the heart to correct her. Meanwhile, Tsukasa has become a "lost cause" without Tsukushi.

Plot[]

Tsukushi Makino helps her mother with her job at the beach. Her mother then starts bragging about Tsukushi's supposedly becoming a wife of a company president. Later, Tsukushi asks her mother "Will you stop saying things like that?" Being so happy, her mother is completely oblivious. They return home where their landlady has laid out a feast for the family. She then hands them an itemized bill totaling three hundred thousand yen. Tsukushi is concerned, but her family thinks everything is okay.

At Eitoku Academy, Kazuya Aoike is talking to Sakurako Sanjo when Sojiro Nishikado walks up to ask about Tsukushi. Sakurako asks Sojiro "How's Tsukasa?" He replies "He's giving me a headache." Meanwhile, two students encourage their friend to pursue Tsukasa Domyoji. Listening to her friends, the girl attempts to give Tsukasa a cake. He opens it and then smashes it into her face. The girl collapses to her knees in shock. Sojiro tells Kazuya and Sakurako "That guy is a lost cause without Tsukushi."

Tsukushi is unable to sleep, though her family are all sleeping happily. She walks to the beach while thinking of Tsukasa. She has dreamed of him standing in the rain every night. Tsukushi wonders what she should do about her situation. She realizes that she will not be able to stay in the village if anyone learns about her leaving Tsukasa and quitting school. Then a surfer walks up to her and grabs her face. Tsukushi thinks that he is trying to kill her. He instead kisses her and says "You've come back."

Character appearances[]

Notes[]

  • The chapter was originally released with a full color illustration in the magazine, Margaret. The image shows Tsukasa dressed in overalls with no shirt underneath and Rui wearing shorts and a loose-fitting shirt.[2]
  • Tsukasa smashing the cake in the girl's face is used for a scene in the first episode of Boys Over Flowers.
