"I'm sorry, Tama. I'm sorry, Tsukasa. This is the only way I know how to live. If I let them protect me, I will get weaker. If people are kind to me, I won't be able to survive alone."
Tsukushi Makino

Chapter 140 (第140話 () ) is the first chapter included in the twenty-second volume of Yoko Kamio's Boys Over Flowers. It was originally published in the June 1998 issue of Margaret.[1] The chapter was followed by the one hundred and forty-first entry of the series on July 5.

Tsukushi Makino departs Tokyo after giving her leave of absence at school. The F4 and Kazuya Aoike confront Tsukasa Domyoji about it. His friends become concerned with his terrifying attitude, which rivals his old self.

Plot[]

At Eitoku Academy, Sojiro Nishikado, Akira Mimasaka, and Rui Hanazawa are all sitting around talking. Rui asks about Tsukasa Domyoji, whom the others have not seen either. Kazuya Aoike then walks up to them and asks "Do you have any idea where Tsukushi has gone?" He becomes increasingly distressed as he reveals that he learned she has submitted a temporary absence to school. Kazuya also informs them that he called Tsukasa's house and learned from a maid that she left the previous night.

Tsukushi Makino is riding a train. A mother and son are sitting across from her. The little boy acts rudely towards her based on her disheveled appearance. Ignoring him, Tsukushi thinks of the previous night. Tama was upset about her leaving and offered to go with her, but Tsukushi refused. Crying, Tama told her "Tsukasa and I said we would protect you." Presently, Tsukushi tears up thinking "This is the only way I know how to live." The boy starts making funny faces at her, which she returns.

Sojiro and Akira yell at a seemingly apathetic Tsukasa. When Akira says "This might really be the end," Tsukasa replies "Shut up, will you?" The F3 are all stunned. Kazuya tries to convince him to go looking for Tsukushi. Tsukasa then grabs him by his collar and throws him down, before threatening to "kill" everyone. As they are leaving, Akira and Sojiro recall the look in his eye from "when he was at his worst." Rui states "It's worse than that." Tsukushi, meanwhile, gets off the train and waves goodbye to the little boy.
