Tsukushi Makino says to Yuki Matsuoka "A poor man's date means you do all sorts of things that don't cost anything, right?" Then, on her way out, Tsukushi asks her how she should invite Tsukasa Domyoji on the double date. Yuki simply advises her to say "Let's go out on a date!!" Putting this aside, Tsukushi's worries turn to whether Tsukasa will "get along" with Yuki's boyfriend. Yuki also voices some nervousness about her boyfriend, revealing that she wants Tsukushi to meet him in order to get a "second opinion."
Akira Mimasaka and Sojiro Nishikado warn Tsukasa about Tsukushi, saying "If you don't stay on your toes, it won't last two months." Tsukasa, however, does not take them seriously. Then they are interrupted by Tsukushi. It takes her several tries to say "You want to go on a date?" Tsukasa is happy until she reveals it is a double date and a "poor man's date." Tsukasa's attitude immediately changes and he refuses to go. Tsukushi is left angry about his inability to compromise though Akira and Sojiro are unsurprised.
On the day of the date, Tsukushi meets Yuki and her boyfriend, Nakatsuka. She explains about Tsukasa not coming and is about to leave, when the man himself appears. After introductions, Tsukushi says to Tsukasa "You said you weren't coming. I was surprised." He responds "Forget about it. Just this once," leading her to smile. The two couples decide to eat hamburgers, something Tsukasa is unfamiliar with. Nakatsuka teases Tsukasa. He manages to hold his temper, but Tsukushi feels apprehensive.
