Chapter 123 (第123話 () , Chapter 123) of Yoko Kamio's Boys Over Flowers was released in the magazine, Margaret. It marks the beginning of the "Couple Arc." The chapter was published on August 20, 1997. It was followed by chapter one hundred and twenty-four on September 5. The chapter was later collected in volume nineteen of the series.

Tsukushi Makino agrees to date Tsukasa Domyoji. When the rest of the school finds out, she has a hard time dealing with the attention. Wanting to do something normal, Yuki Matsuoka suggests that they go on a double date.

Plot

Tsukasa Domyoji is frozen after Tsukushi Makino agrees to date him. She waves her hand in his face and shouts "Can you hear me?!," finally getting his attention. Seeing him blushing, Tsukushi asks "Are you that happy?" He denies it, but loudly yells "Yes!" once Tsukushi has left the room. Later at school, Sojiro Nishikado and Akira Mimasaka run up to Tsukushi. They are ecstatic about her finally agreeing to go out with Tsukasa. Tsukushi attempts to remind them of the two month time limit, though they do not hear her.

Tsukushi resolves to keep a "low profile" about her and Tsukasa's relationship. She falls asleep in class and discovers her classmates glaring at her when she awakes. Kazuya Aoike asks about her dating Tsukasa. Akira and Sojiro confirm it, having accompanied Tsukasa to pick up Tsukushi for lunch. In the cafeteria, Tsukushi cannot relax, realizing they will never be an "ordinary couple." Noticing her demeanor, Tsukasa tells her that he understands but adds "Don't let that be your excuse two months from now."

After school, Tsukushi heads over to Yuki Matsuoka's house and tells her everything that has happened, focusing on her relationship with Tsukasa. Yuki lists all the couple activities she does with her boyfriend, which Tsukushi is unable to envision Tsukasa doing. Yuki tells her "Instead of you trying to fit perfectly into his world, you should try to get closer by having him fit into yours." Tsukushi remains skeptical. Yuki gets an idea for Tsukushi and Tsukasa to join her and her boyfriend on a "poor man's date."
