Chapter 109 (第109話 () , Chapter 109) of Boys Over Flowers was published on January 5, 1997 in Margaret's combined third and fourth issue. It was the first entry of the year. The chapter was followed by chapter one hundred and ten in February and was later included in volume seventeen.

After seeing Tsukasa Domyoji and Shigeru Okawahara kiss, Tsukushi Makino tries to pretend that it does not bother her. Later, she runs into the couple while out with Rui Hanazawa at a café. Shigeru ropes her into coming to her family's villa.

Plot

Tsukushi Makino clutches her heart as she watches Tsukasa Domyoji kiss Shigeru Okawahara. Rui Hanazawa smirks, saying "Shocked?" Tsukushi refuses to admit it, instead pretending that she is happy for them. Rui continues to tease her. Tsukushi returns to class, where she thinks over what happened again. She slowly becomes more and more angry. Yuriko Asai and Erika Ayuhara notice her mood and call her "just a plaything to Tsukasa from the start." Tsukushi then threatens them with her broken pencil.

After school, Tsukushi walks home with Kazuya Aoike. She admits that she is tired of her "gullible" personality. He tells her "That's what makes you so wonderful." His words lift up Tsukushi, who decides to be careful now that she has a "second start at life." At home, Tsukushi is in a better mood. Her mother asks about Tsukasa and is shocked to learn that he has a girlfriend. During dinner, her mother is about to tell her something but stops. Tsukushi thinks she is acting "strange," but does not take much notice.

That night, Tsukushi says goodbye to Yuki Matsuoka after finishing their shift at work. She then runs into Rui and stop for to drink tea. Tsukushi is happily chatting with Rui, when Tsukasa and Shigeru walk into the shop. Shigeru invites herself to sit with the two, calling it a "double date." Tsukushi tries to make small talk, while ignoring Tsukasa openly glaring at her and Rui. Shigeru invites them to stay the weekend at family's villa. Tsukushi wants to decline, but Rui says yes after hearing that there is a hot spring there.
