The manga, Boys Over Flowers and Boys Over Flowers Season 2, take place in a semi-floating timeline. Time passes in both series but not during any real-world year. Roughly five years in total are seen in both series.

Being a close adaptation to the manga, the anime follows a similar timeline to it. The anime also is not set during a real-world year and the sense of time passing is usually portrayed by the changing seasons.

Meteor Garden (2001) takes place during a real-world year, but has a trickier timeline than the following drama adaptations. Using information from Meteor Garden II, which takes place in 2002, we can retroactively place Meteor Garden in 1999.

Hana Yori Dango (2005) and Hana Yori Dango Returns (2007) has a very clear timeline, taking place during the exact months and years it originally aired. Hana Yori Dango Final (2008) is set four years later. Finally, Hana Nochi Hare is on the same timeline taking place in 2018.

The Korean drama Boys Over Flowers (2009) also takes place during a real-world year, starting in late 2008.

Meteor Garden (2018) takes place over the 2017-2018 school year.

The timeline of F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers begins in April 2021 and continues to late July in episode fourteen. The last episodes are set in August 2022 with the finale having an epilogue set in 2024.
