The following location is primarily featured in: Manga. However, it may also appear in and/or be mentioned in other Boys Over Flowers media.
Akemahara Fishing Village (明間原漁村,Akemahara Gyoson) is a coastal town with a population of one thousand people. It is best known for its seaweed production, though it is also popular among surfers.[1] The Makino family lived for a brief time, but ultimately decided to return to Tokyo.
Cliffs — the village is surrounded by cliffs, where people are known to commit suicide. Tsukushi Makino nearly fell off one of these cliffs, but was saved by fisherman Gen whom mistakenly thought she was trying to jump.[2]
Grilled corn stand — a food stand located on the beach. Tsukushi and Matsutaro Yoshimatsu worked there part-time.[3]
Tome's home — a two story house where Tome and her family live. The Makinos' lived on the second floor. After some time, Tome began thinking of the family as freeloaders.[2] When Tsukushi came to the village, Tome gave them a 300,000 yen bill for their rent and meals.[4]
Wakame Boardinghouse (民宿わかめ,Wakame Boardinghouse) — where Matsutaro stayed during his time in the village. The landlord disliked Matsutaro, calling him a "no-account."[1]
In the anime, Tsukushi's parents and brother move to the village in "Open Up Your Heart." Unlike in the manga, they all adapt well to their life there and her father becomes a competent fisherman. The family also remains in the village since the anime ends at that point.
Portrayals
A version of the fishing village appears in episodes fourteen and fifteen of Meteor Garden (2001). Like in the manga, Shan Cai's (Tsukushi) mother and father move to the village for work. However, the venture turns out to not be very successful when Shan Cai's father learns that he is unable to fish due to seasickness. Shan Cai later joins her parents in the village for a short time, but returns to Taipei after a few days. Her parents remain in the village until the beginning of Meteor Garden II (2002).
